Good Moosings to you all,

I was simply delighted to actually have email in my inbox. I, actually had TWO whole emails this time. One didn't actually have any questions but I was so happy to get it I did the happy Betsy dance. (It's sort of a cross between the Bartman, and the Moonwalk.. What? I have a dvd player.) Then, to my great delight I found another email. I did another happy Betsy dance, until the barn roof fell down on Trik. (He's the triceratops I share the barn with) and decided to go over to the field and chew the cud as I thought about what gpc asked.

Dear Betsy,
I was wondering - and I thought who better to ask - about why, WHY damnit (oops sorry, got a bit carried away there), the BTVS writers never, ever, EVER, let Buffy and Giles have more than 10 minutes screen time together. Also, is it just me clinging for hope here, or did Buffy look jealous when she saw Olivia in Giles' apartment? And why didn't they have more B/G scenes in season 6? And did you see the chemistry between them when they did have scenes together? And how quick to the defense Buffy was when Spike said he always wondered about them?

Sorry for rambling at you Betsy,
gpc

Well gpc, I have thought long and hard about this. I still think the reason they don't like them to have screen time together, and I remember there was also a 6 inch rule? (Tony and Sarah weren't allowed within 6 inches of each other while they were still at the High School. Although Aly, and Charisma were fair game.) I do believe it's mentioned on the S1 dvd commentary by Joss - is because it's OBVIOUS there is something there. I suggest an experiment - I want you to all find a friend who knows nothing of Buffy - and make them watch "The Prom." Ask them if they think Giles is in love with Buffy - yes a perfectly leading question... just let the kernel form in their mind, then go back and show them the rest of the show if they are interested.

No, No, it's not just you.. I, too, believe that Buffy was seething with jealousy at seeing another woman in *her* Watcher's shirt. Obviously, someone who had been giving her Watcher happies all night, that wasn't her. Buffy, I think, was suddenly confronted with the fact her Watcher was a *man*. A highly desirable one at that. Buffy was confused, and lashed at Giles because of it. How dare he have someone else when she wanted him? Especially when I don't think she realised that she did until she saw someone else in his shirt.

Sadly, I'm not allowed to bash writers - it's in my contract and plus we'd be here ALLL night and quite a bit of time after that. (I'm just a little holstein that wishes either all men kept their shirts on, or all men took them off. Not the same one all the time.) But I think there are one or two reasons that there wasn't more Giles/Buffy interaction. Again it comes down to the way they make the screen sizzle. Also, if Giles/Buffy had more time than say Giles/Anya then maybe other's would actually start to realise the chemistry B/G do have - compared to anyone else there. (This is a B/G site :D if you want to here how great G/A is I suggest Untamed Desires.) Also, after 5 years of being away from his family I truly do think Ash wanted to go home, although I think if the writers had actually given Giles a decent storyline instead of being too afraid that the father/daugther thing wouldn't hold if he had more screen time he would have stuck it out for another 2 years. But that is pure speculation on my part, and well okay so I wandered over to Bath and had a chat with the horse.

Of course I saw the chemistry, didn't everyone? Well I positively swooned when I saw their hug in Flooded, and the looks between them in Once More With Feeling. Swooning is a difficult thing to do when you are a cow, four legs and all that. Still B/G always does that to me. I swoon a lot when they are on screen together.

I loved the line between Spike and Buffy. Have you all noticed how often Spike points out there is more to them than just Watcher/Slayer? He referred to her as the "lady of the house" on one occasion I recall. I do enjoy the onscreen time between Giles and Spike, they play off against each other so well. I also think Spike knows Buffy will never love him the way she loves Giles. All I really want is for Buffy to say "I've never seen you as my father." or Giles to say "I've never seen you as my daughter." Well okay that leading into a passionate kiss even better, but hey, just destory the f/d myth. *PLEASE JOSS* If you do nothing else, stop letting the skeptics throw that in our faces. It's OLD, and was said by someone who had no clue, but they still use it. MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! MOOOOO!! Uh oh, I hope none of you can speak Vampire Cow, or I'll be in trouble.

It was a wonderful ramble, gpc, don't be sorry. You were moovalous! I really enjoyed answering it. I hope you enjoyed reading my moosings, and that I'll have more email in my inbox soon so I can make the roof fall down again.

Say Moo! to your cows for me.

Betsy
